DIY Dining Room Revamp

Creating a space for our family and friends to come together has been such a fun and fairly simple process. So here we go, I’m taking you all into my Dining Room!

My husband Josh and I had been living together for a few months at this point, and the transition of going from a bachelor pad to a home with a wife was in the works. HA! He has been such a trooper throughout all of this, I’m a lucky gal! So, we finally began working little by little on updating our dining space, and I feel like we have come to point on completion. That makes me VERY happy (insert excited dance moment)! I love a good home project, but I really love it when it’s done! We wanted to use a lot of what we already had and just refinish it. It is crazy how different you can make something look just by giving it a little TLC! Adding in a few new touches really made it all come together. Here’s the breakdown of all the details, enjoy!

The Dining Table: We sanded it down with a handheld electric sander. Starting off we used between an 80-100 grit of sand paper to get the top coat of original stain off and ended it with 400 grit to really clean it up. This sped up this step so much. Seriously… we were not about to do all of that by hand! Once it was sanded down to its original wood color, we stained a deep walnut brown. We used Minwax stain in the color “Jacobean-2750”. Now that was probably the most time-consuming part… I kept wanting to put it back together and get it in the house but Josh kept reminding me that the drying process takes a few days. Ugh! The patience was worth it, it turned out stunning!

The Chairs: I have always been a huge fan of a wood table with the accent of clean black chairs. A mix of farmhouse and modern is exactly what I found in these stunning metal cross back chairs from Target! I mean of course, what can’t we find at Target? They were super easy to assemble, very sturdy and exactly what I needed to complete the look of the set. The one thing I would recommend is to get the black felt tips to add to the bottoms of the legs, just to be extra safe on your floors!

The Lighting: Simplistic and clean was our go to for this lighting in here. We found the gem at Lowes for a good deal and it is everything I wanted! The rectangular shape compliments the table so well and it matches the color of the chairs perfectly. Josh even added a dimmer to the light switch and now we can adjust the lighting. Bam! Now that’s my kind of dining room.

Décor: Oh the fun of getting to decorate! Currently we are decked out in fall and I love it. The warm colors and textures just make the space feel so inviting! I wanted to do something simple and effective so I found that glass jar and the yellow faux floral sprigs from the one and only Hobby Lobby. The glass pumpkin is from the Magnolia Line at Target and is such a beautiful statement piece on the table. Tying in the feel of it being a dining room, I wanted to display some of our wine collection and cute custom cocktail napkins. Little touches like that go a long way. I’m super excited to interchange these pieces as the seasons change! The faux cow hide adds a little more of a masculine touch, gotta keep it balanced y’all!

Making a house a home can look so many ways, and this is mine! I cherish getting to host family and friends here in our home. Home projects can be so fun and rewarding, just give yourself the time and open up that mind to the beauty of creativity. I hope you have wonderful memories in your dining room too. Cheers to that!
