First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a global pandemic…
Oh how this year continues to shock us! Josh and I have been married for almost two months now and my goodness has it been a journey! Reflecting on the past year leading up to our big day, it is no lie that the season of life when you find your person, fall in love, get engaged and plan the wedding of your dreams is absolute bliss! All of the planning and organizing that goes in towards it can be drowning at times, but not much beats throwing a global pandemic into the mix. Yep, that’s right! Something that no one ever saw coming made its way into the lives of everyone in the world and the timeline of my wedding.
Our original wedding date was on April 18, 2020 and that soon changed. Through many tears and several hard circumstances being thrown back and forth, we had to make the decision to postpone our wedding. We were one of the many couples whose wedding dates fell victim to Covid-19. At this moment we were a month away from the wedding, and it truly was heartbreaking. It was one of the hardest choices to make, but we both knew that it was the right choice and the safest option. So, we started a new countdown to August 28, 2020! Praying that everything would be “okay” by then, we just had to wait. The world felt like it was coming to halt with the fear of what this virus was going to do. As a bride to be, I took it hard. I finally found the man of my dreams, and this happens. It was tough! But now looking back, I know it made us stronger. As the new date grew closer, things were still not looking very promising with the CDC guidelines at hand. Announcements were made that you couldn’t host events over 100, then it was 50… and kept getting lower. How were we supposed to go about telling the guests invited to our wedding that we actually can’t have everyone there? All I wanted to do was cry and try to understand the state that not only we were in with the wedding, but the state that so many were in. I felt so much sadness thinking that if we wanted to proceed with getting married in August, we had to make this a much more intimate setting. At this point, we did not want to keep waiting to finally be married, so we had to make another tough call… Our wedding of over 200 was now very small. Though it was not what we had originally planned and we missed our family and friends that were not present, it was still a perfect day. We shared the evening with our immediate family and bridal parties, and felt surrounded with love regardless of the circumnutates. Josh and I finally said “I DO”! On August 28, 2020 at 6pm, we became husband and wife in the middle of a pandemic. How’s that for a story to tell!?
So here we are, almost 2 months later and we have been soaking in the newly wed life and are cherishing the good memories made during this crazy time. Our Wedding Ceremony may be over, but the party is not! Amidst all of the changes we have already faced, we also decided to postpone the reception to next year. We just couldn’t imagine one more memory happening without having all of our loved ones present! Our reception will be next August and we are so excited! We are calling it our 1 year anniversary party, so cheers to that!
If I have learned anything during this past year, it is to really embrace the joy that life brings even when it seems clouded, surround yourself with people who lift you up and to be open minded. You may have a plan, but life might have another one! It doesn’t mean it will be easy, but it will be okay. To all of the brides out there going through any struggles from the results of this pandemic, my heart goes to you. Just keep your chin up, keep your loved ones close and know that it will all work out! Love always wins, no matter what!
